Eureka Valley

Eureka Valley

Eureka Valley/Dolores Heights is very popular with families and the LGBT community.

Welcome to Eureka Valley

This large affluent residential neighborhood is best known for one of the sub-neighborhoods contained within it: The Castro. Long a source of San Francisco Gay pride and activism, Eureka Valley/Dolores Heights is very popular with families and the LGBT community.

The Neighborhood

Eureka Valley is filled with large Victorian homes that withstood the 1906 earthquake and have since been lovingly and artfully restored. Many Victorians have been converted to multi-unit flats and condominiums. Hillside homes may offer views of the East Bay, downtown San Francisco, Twin Peaks, or Corona Heights.

What To Expect

Eureka Valley is home to San Francisco’s Castro District, historically the epicenter of Gay culture in the city. It is one of the city’s most vibrant communities, saturated with restaurants and bars, so popular that patrons spill out onto the streets.

Lifestyle

On sunny days, residents head for nearby Dolores Park to meet up with friends, listen to music, and relax in the sun. The Castro Street Fair, founded by Harvey Milk, features music on multiple stages and draws visitors from throughout the Bay Area and beyond.

The Market

Despite the occasional home remodel over the years, you can still find one of the largest collections of original Victorians in the city. What began as an industrial-era working-class neighborhood has gradually become one of the most desirable areas to live.

Art & Culture

The Castro Theater shows independent films as well as classics, and hearing its mighty Wurlitzer Organ alone is worth the price of admission.
