Cole Valley is home to many writers, filmmakers and visual artists, and features a popular street fair every September. Cole Valley came into its own in the 1920s after boosters successfully convinced the City to build the Sunset Tunnel, providing quick transit to downtown. In the 1960s, hippies drawn to counterculture joined Cole Valley’s middle-class residents, later becoming homeowners and parents.
